The Land<\/p>\n

Upper Puna, fourteen miles from Kilauea<\/em><\/h2>\n

The Forge sits on six acres in Upper Puna on Hawaii Island, close enough to Kilauea that its glow is visible on the horizon at night. This is land shaped by fire, still being shaped by fire.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Old growth Ohia and Hapu’u<\/em><\/h2>\n

Our forest is old-growth Ohia<\/grapheme>oh-HEE-ah<\/alias><\/lexeme> and Hapu’u<\/grapheme>hah-POO-oo<\/alias><\/lexeme>, among the rarest and last of its kind remaining from before colonization. Walking it feels less like a hike and more like stepping backward in time.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Beneath the Surface<\/p>\n

A lava tube, still unexplored<\/em><\/h2>\n

A lava tube cave system runs beneath the property. We’ve explored it three and a half hours in without finding an end. There’s something fitting about a center for inner exploration built on top of ground still being discovered.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Wild Neighbors<\/p>\n

Bordering Hawaii Volcanoes National Park<\/em><\/h2>\n

The Forge borders a vast preserve that adjoins Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A five-minute walk puts you at the trailhead; from there it’s roughly seven miles to the Pu’u’o’o<\/grapheme>poo-oo-OH-oh<\/alias><\/lexeme> vent. Adventure isn’t an amenity here, it’s the backyard.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Off the Grid<\/p>\n

Self-sufficient, and still connected<\/em><\/h2>\n

We run on sixteen thousand gallons of rain catchment and solar power, entirely off-grid, while still holding a fiber optic hardline for real internet. Self-sufficiency doesn’t mean isolation.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

Eight years of plantings, rare edibles, medicinals, and cash crops line the property, alongside a community center nearing completion for weekly yoga and healing sessions. The Forge has never been rushed, and it isn’t starting now.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n
